Underground storage sites for natural gas in Europe

This map represents the working gas capacities of underground storage sites in billion of m3 and the number of storages in each European country.

Analysis

The total working gas capacity (project included) in Europe today totals around 150 billion m3, including 108 billion m3 in the UE-27.

The global storage capacity is currently estimated at over 423 billion m3.

France, Germany and Italy can hold approximately 1/3 of their annual requirement in stock. These countries store natural gas in a unique logistics chain to maintain a balance between supply and demand.
