Evolution of the sources of gas
supplied to the EU-28 in 2018 vs 2017
Source: BP Statistical Review 2019 et 2018
This graph represents the evolution of the natural gas volumes exported to the EU-28 between 2017 and 2018 from the main producing countries.
European strategy of diversifying supplies led the EU-28 to seek new sources of natural gas. Imports to Europe have slightly increased in 2018 (+10,7%). Moreover, the drop in the imports from Qatar can be explained by the redirection of LNG to Asia.
Imports via pipelines from Russia increase by 5,7% in 2018 after a drop between 2013 and 2014 following the Ukrainian dispute.
Between 2017 and 2018, imports from Nigeria, Russia, Norway, Trinidad & Tobago and Azerbaijan are increasing, while those from Peru and Iran have decreased respectively by 62,5% and 17,1%.
